The Useless Web

Why I created The Useless Web

One evening after work, I was lying on the couch, mindlessly scrolling on my phone. I wanted something “pointless but fun” to relax—a little website that does something silly or surprising with a single click. After half an hour, all I got were repetitive short videos or long articles. That simple feeling of “tap once and a quirky little site pops open” was nowhere to be found.

I figured it probably exists—it’s just scattered, tucked away in internet corners. You know they’re out there, you just don’t know where to start. If you search for “interesting websites,” you get curated lists and guides, but clicking through one by one gets tiring fast.Honestly, I just wanted a button that would take me to a place that’s “useless, but makes me smile.” Like finding a tiny piece of glass as a kid—it doesn’t do much, but it looks beautiful in the sun.

That’s how The Useless Web came to be.It’s simple—a random button, a list of sites, a short intro, plus screenshot previews. You can tap once to see what little surprise you’ll bump into today, or take your time and check the details page to see what it’s about. If you just want to kill a few minutes, it does the job.

We’re really doing a small thing

No big speeches. The Useless Web tries to solve a very specific problem:that feeling of “I want to explore something new, but I don’t know where to start.” Not a tutorial, not a productivity tool—just something “a bit interesting.”We give you a clean, lightweight starting point.

Why you can trust us

  • We don’t track your behavior on other sites. We only keep a simple local record of which tiles you’ve opened—just so you see fewer repeats next time. You can clear it anytime.
  • All content belongs to the original creators. We’re just a doorway that helps you get there.
  • We try not to get in your way: clean pages, fast loading, and straightforward interactions. Start in seconds, leave in seconds—no baggage.
  • We update with restraint. We won’t add features just to look “busy.” What matters is that tiny moment when you click: did it make you smile?

Compared to similar sites, we added a little extra

Besides random jumps, we also give you a “map”: a website list and detail pages. With screenshot previews, you can get a feel for things at a glance before deciding to go. We also support internationalization, so people in different languages can enjoy it just as easily—curiosity and the joy of exploring shouldn’t be blocked by language.

What we’re doing next

  • We’ll keep adding “useless but delightful” sites, slowly growing the collection.
  • We’ll gradually open submissions—your recommendations will be carefully included and credited.
  • We might add light “everyone loves” leaderboards, but we won’t use scores to “judge” what’s more fun.
  • We’ll consider tags and lightweight search to help you find your favorite flavor.
  • We’ll continue improving accessibility and multilingual support, so more people can join this gentle little exploration.

If you’re like me

Sometimes you just want to open something, take a quick look, smile, and that’s enough. It isn’t “wasting time”—it’s a small blank space you save for yourself. The Useless Web wants to be that little doorway for you—quiet, a bit quirky, maybe “useless,” but every now and then it sparks a tiny joy.

Let’s begin

Hit “Random” on the homepage, or pick one from the site list. Hope today brings you a little bit of good mood.
